CSA-B335-15 Standards

This safety standard outlines the qualifications for lift truck operators in Ontario.


Knowledge Verification

Following the completion of theory instruction, trainees shall be evaluated on the following items:


a)  Legislation & regulations;

b)  Lift truck features;

c)  Stability;

d)  Capacity plate;

e)  Operational inspection;

f)   Start-up;

g)  Traveling;

h)  Pedestrian safety;

i)   Load handling;

j)   Ramps & grades;

k)  Personnel lifting;

l)   Elevators;

m)  Press/Seated;

n)  Shutdown;

o)  Refueling/Recharging.



Practical Skills Evaluation

Following the completion of theory instruction & practice, trainees shall be evaluated.


The evaluation shall be conducted on the specific work task & using the classification of the lift truck to which trainees are assigned, based on the following items:


a)   Operational inspection; 

b)   Start-up;

c)   Pedestrian safety;

d)   Traveling, load handling;

e)   Load selection & security;

f)    Load pickup & placement;

g)   Stacking/Unstacking;

h)   Handling, specific to the truck;

i)    Driving on ramps & grades;

j)    Personnel lifting;

k)   Using elevators;

l)    Shut down;

m)  Refueling/Recharging.


The purpose of this standard is to promote safety awareness & minimize the risk of injury to workers.
